Website Backups

We’ll make sure that you have recent website backups stored safely, so that if anything does go wrong with your install, it’s all ready to be restored from a recent backup.

We back up your WordPress database and all of your other website files (including themes and plugins, images, and any other media such as PDF files that are not stored in your database) on our WordPress care plans every month, so that you know for certain you have a recent backup that we can re-install from in case something does go wrong with your site.

A Little Bit of Care

On our introductory plan, we take 1 backup per month.

Taking Regular Care

For our standard plan, we take 2 backups every month (once fortnightly). This gives a little more peace of mind to our users who update their content a little more often.

So Much Care

On our most comprehensive plan, we take 4 backups every month (once a week). We recommend this frequency (as a minimum) for customers with sites that get updated very frequently, or online stores.

Why do I need backups?

Unfortunately, sometimes things can just go wrong.

Your WordPress database contains every post, page, comment and link you have on your site. If your database gets corrupted or erased, you stand to lose everything you’ve created.

A large core update might create unforeseen problems with plugins and themes, your database might get corrupted, or you might even get hacked (although we really hope not).  With a proper backup of your WordPress database, and all of your files such as images, PDFs, and media, things can be quickly restored back to normal.

It is essential to have a recent site backup because problems inevitably occur. With a backup, you are in a position to quickly take action when disaster strikes.

Can I do this myself?

Absolutely!

And, if you host with us, it is really easy—just log in to your hosting control panel and select the website backup function. It only takes a few minutes.

You can do this once a month, or if you work on your site regularly, maybe once a week or even every day. We recommend that you keep at least 3 recent backups, whether or not you are using our WordPress care plan, simply for peace of mind.

Retainer Hours

You get a set number of retainer hours each month to use as you please—anything from “set up my contact form for me” to “can you tidy up my home page”.

When you set up your WordPress care plan with us, we create a unique Slack channel where you can add all of the items that you would like help with. You can even assign a priority to your tasks, so we know which to work on first.

You can use your hours for tech-support, design services for your website or social channels, or minor development work. Any unused hours will be used by us to improve your website where we see fit the next month. So even if you don’t need anything specific, you are still getting an improved website!

Site Improvements

Any unused retainer hours from the previous month will be used for minor website maintenance work that we spot on your site. This could be anything from making sure your uploaded images are optimised and correctly sized, page-speed gains, or tidying up.
